Hi everyone! After a 2 hour flight to Atlanta and a 13.5 hour flight to Haneda, I finally arrived in Tokyo! There is a 13 hour time difference from Florida, so it is already August 22nd here!

I’m in Tokyo!!

I have already met so many kind JET’s of varying age and Japanese ability. It’s so cool how diverse our group is and how lucky the Japanese students are to have such unique perspectives joining them in their English class!

My flight buddies, Kayla (left) and Meagan (right)!

After we arrived at the airport, I got my resident card and went through customs which were both a breeze. We took a charter bus to the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku where we will have 2 days of orientation (the first day being today, the 22nd!). After our mini orientation, a few JET’s and I went walking around Shinjuku. It was so surreal to be back here after 3 years. I feel so grateful to have been accepted to this program and fulfill my dream of living here.

I already went to Daiso, a Japanese equivalent to the Dollar store. It is a wonderful place with so many cute (and quality) things! I got some masks and a pair of socks to match my blouse for my first day of orientation!

Because this is my first official post, I’d like to show you how to read my name in Japanese. I’ll show you my middle name Yuri, since I will be using it to sign off on my posts (and conveniently has the least amount of characters)! Yuri means lily in Japanese and is written like this in Hiragana, the first of 3 writing systems: ゆり

ゆ is pronounced yu

り is pronounced ri

So, with my first official sign off, thank you for following my journey and I’ll see you in the next one!

~ゆり
